UNB Violates New Telemarketing Laws

Got a call from the UNB Associated Alumni the other day, they were begging for money again, like they do every year. However, this time, I didn’t know it was them as they blocked their caller-id. Even though they are exempt from the Do Not Call List, they still must abide by the other rules. One of them is:
Telemarketers must display the originating calling number or an alternate number where the call originator can be reached (except where the number display is unavailable for technical reasons).

I didn’t file a complaint, but it only takes one and they can get a big fine. Hopefully next year, they won’t be calling with “Hello, my name is Joe and I’m a volunteer student at UNB in Fredericton. I’m calling as we need to raise money to pay for our telemarketing fine”.
